Public Relations
My career started in the multi-faceted world of public relations (PR). I contributed to numerous consumer campaigns spanning the corporate, entertainment, and non-profit sectors within agency and in-house roles. From a PR vantage point, I can see how a client's messaging fits into a bigger picture. Every product launch, filming, and awareness campaign catapulted me to the copywriter I am today.
I'm often subcontracted to work with publicists on their client's PR needs, such as writing a press release or pitch letter. From an entertainment venue to an opera to a book release, I am always up to the challenge of assembling all the details of a campaign into a comprehensive yet succinct document for members of the media. While my focus is writing, I occasionally provide clients with media counsel or support as well.
A SMALL YET MIGHTY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
Problem: Our non-profit is primarily run by volunteers. We have a big announcement and seek media attention to help foster our mission.
Solution: Let’s work together so I can take your writing needs off your plate. I will put together a comprehensive press release announcing your music label launch and successful efforts in aiding those impacted by the criminal justice system.
Thanks to Give a Beat's publicist, the press release gained well-deserved media attention.
A NATIONAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH LOCAL NEEDS
Problem: Our organization does not have anyone to handle communications before, during, and after disaster relief efforts.
Solution: Hire me, and I will serve to manage the public affairs and communications of this chapter. In this role, I will be on-call with the media, responding to disaster relief efforts. I will produce press materials, internal communications, and community newsletters on a timely basis.
A HISTORIC VENUE
Problem: We have written material, but it's just not strong enough.
Solution: Hire me, and I will start from the ground up with the proper research, strategy, content, and flair that your story deserves.
The summer of 2020 was all about pivoting. With Coronavirus precautions leading to business closures worldwide, many business owners had to rethink how to serve their constituents best. In July 2020, a famed Hollywood venue did just that, and announcing its changes to media required sharp attention to detail. When the copywriter that the venue's publicist hired did not meet her goals, she had me take over. I worked diligently from scratch to make the story of The Montalban's historical pivot sing. Here are examples of the press releases I wrote to promote the venue's entertainment options during the pandemic:

AN UNPRECEDENTED MILESTONE
Problem: A centenarian (recently diagnosed with a terminal illness) is soon to celebrate a milestone, but the family is not planning on informing the local community or media.
Solution: Let's work together to tell the story of this war hero in time for National Centenarians Day.
In learning that a San Diego resident was diagnosed with a terminal illness at the ripe age of 109, I researched and found that his birthday fell in time for National Centenarians Day. I ceased on the opportunity by working with his family to uncover this beloved grandfather's story: a war hero, immigrant, and revered patriarch to many. Under time constraints, I interviewed family members, wrote a biographical press release, and sent it to local media and public officials. To my delight, we discovered that the guest of honor was likely the oldest living resident in his county! Television, print, and online reporters flocked to his home to honor his day. The community had an overwhelming response to this feel-good story.

A LOCAL BUSINESS
Problem: I run my own business and don't have time for PR.
Solution: Hire me, and I will take your PR outreach efforts off your plate.
In 2017, a local business owner needed to inform the community about her business's upcoming anniversary. I took this busy mom and entrepreneur on as a client. In a matter of weeks, I formulated a PR plan, wrote and distributed media materials, and helped secure local coverage.
A LOCAL POLITICIAN
Problem: I'm venturing into a new, unfamiliar role and want to inform the community to garner support.
Solution: Hire me, and I will be a part of your support system. Together, we will work on your branding and help your professional potential soar through your newfound passion.
In 2016, a Washingtonian political candidate hired me to write a press release and biography. He had never run for office, and I had never written for a candidate, so I took the job as a rewarding learning experience. His local party was pleased he hired a professional to help with this aspect of his campaign. Following is the bio and the press release that his campaign distributed, which several local media outlets picked up.
